Faculty Recital - Milen Kirov, piano
Milen Kirov's "Modes & Meters" is a collection of concert etudes for piano based on the traditional melodies and asymmetrical rhythms of Bulgaria. This concert will present compositions for solo piano and piano duo featuring Milen Kirov and Neema Pazargad.
About Milen Kirov: Milen Kirov was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria to a family of musicians. He attended the Plovdiv Academy of Music, Dance, and Art where he studied piano with Professor George Petrov, student of Olivier Messiaen, and with Professor George Kanev, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory. In 1998 Milen moved to the United States where he continued his studies at CalArts receiving a bachelor's degree in piano performance. There he studied piano with Dr. Vicki Ray and composition with David Rosenboom. Milen also holds a master's degree in composition from California State University, Northridge, where he studied with Dr. Liviu Marinescu. Currently, Milen is pursuing a Doctoral degree as a performer/composer at California Institute of the Arts where he also teaches musicianship skills, piano, composition, and Balkan brass jazz ensemble.
